Assam: Koch Rajbongshis hold sit-in protest demanding Constitutional rights, land ownership in BTR

The Koch Rajbongshi community residing in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Ravahasong areas continues to face significant challenges, as they remain deprived of essential constitutional rights and the legal ability to buy and sell land.

In a previous announcement, the Chief Minister had pledged to grant these rights to the Koch Rajbongshi people, alongside the tribalization of their community and the establishment of a dedicated headquarters in Shilsako. However, these promises have yet to materialize, leaving the community disillusioned and frustrated.

In response to the ongoing neglect, members of the Koch Rajbongshi community staged a two-hour sit-in protest at the Tezpur headquarters today, emphasizing their five-point charter of demands. The protestors voiced their concerns and warned that if their demands are not met promptly, they will intensify their efforts and launch a statewide agitation.

The Sonitpur district Koch Rajbongshi leaders underscored the urgency of their demands, reiterating the community’s resolve to continue their struggle until their rights are recognized and their long-awaited promises are fulfilled.
