Assam: Kokrajhar rally demands formation of Kamatapur state, ST status for Koch Rajbongshi

A massive protest rally was held in Assam's Kokrajhar city on the evening of December 27, demanding the formation of the Kamatapur state and the recognition of Koch Rajbongshi as a Scheduled Tribe.

The rally was organised by the Koch Rajbongshi United Platform (Koch Rajbongshi Oikyamancha) and supported by the Kokrajhar District Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union.

Over hundred protestors marched from Kokrajhar Government Higher Secondary School and Multi-Purpose Sports Ground to green field.

The rally was filled with slogans against the BJP government, demanding the formation of the Kamatapur state and Scheduled Tribe status. Protestors raised slogans such as 'Create Kamatapur State, ST Status' and 'Down with BJP Government,' creating a wave of excitement and tension throughout the city.

In the lead-up to the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections, the President of the All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU), Balaram Barman, declared that if the Koch Rajbongshi community is not granted Scheduled Tribe status, they will take a hard stance against the BJP government.
