Assam: Lakhimpur street vendors hail MLA Manab Deka as their 'Savior'

In Lakhimpur town, road food vendors hold BJP MLA Manab Deka in the highest regard, often referring to him as their savior, even likening him to a god for the immense support he has extended to them. Through his efforts, these small business owners, many of whom are women, have been given a lifeline with approved food zones, financial assistance and improved infrastructure helping them achieve self-reliance and a better livelihood.

One vendor, who previously had to battle the elements to run her shop, shared her story of gratitude: “Earlier, I used to stall my shop in the open field and had problems during the rain. We would get drenched trying to sell goods. But now, with the help of MLA Manab Deka, we have been allocated a space in the food court and we even have a roof! The problem is no longer there, and we are so happy. He is like a god to us people."

Another shopkeeper expressed how much their lives had improved with Deka’s intervention. “We used to set up our shop in front of our house, but it was hard to keep it open. Now, with the help of MLA Sir, we are much better off. He has been a true blessing for us.”

The admiration for Deka extends beyond his ability to create physical spaces for the vendors. The sense of security and dignity he has restored to their livelihoods has left a lasting impact on the people. “Many MLAs came and went,” another vendor said, “but we have never seen an MLA like him. He is truly different, and his work shows how much he cares.”

“Earlier, Lakhimpur was much different from what it is now. The work MLA Manab Deka has done is incredible. He is utilizing the funds to help poor people like us. It is indeed a great thing for us to have such an MLA, and we are grateful to have him representing us.”, said another vendor.

Through his efforts, Manab Deka has not only provided vendors with the necessary infrastructure but also facilitated financial assistance and handled the intricate paperwork required to formalize their businesses.

It has always been my goal to empower local entrepreneurs and create an environment where everyone can thrive. Establishing the approved food zone and facilitating financial assistance were steps toward ensuring your hard work is recognized and rewarded. I believe that by supporting our vendors, we not only uplift individual lives but also strengthen our community as a whole.”

The newly established food zone now houses 24 vendors, providing them with security and shelter to run their small businesses with dignity. For many, this represents more than just an economic opportunity; it symbolizes hope and a brighter future for them and their families.
