A long-standing land dispute erupted into violence early this morning in Hasrawbari No. 2, Gossaigaon, leaving at least 18 people injured, several critically. The conflict, involving men and women from both parties, prompted immediate police intervention and led to a tense atmosphere across the area.
The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities, with several later referred to Kokrajhar for specialised treatment due to the severity of their injuries.
According to local reports, the clash stemmed from a two-bigha land parcel at the centre of a prolonged ownership conflict.
Residents allege that Kamal Uddin's family had been occupying the land, which reportedly belongs to Somesh Ali. The situation escalated when Ali’s family attempted to cultivate the land this morning. Eyewitnesses claim Kamal Uddin’s relatives attacked them with sharp weapons and sticks.
Police arrived shortly after the incident and have launched an investigation. Authorities are also working to maintain peace in the region and prevent further escalation. No arrests have been reported so far.
