Assam: Land dispute turns violent in Kokrajhar; four seriously injured
Four persons were seriously injured after a violent clash broke out between two families at Assam's Salbari under Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station on the afternoon of Sunday, February 22, over a land-related dispute.
According to sources, the altercation stemmed from a disagreement regarding the diversion of water from a nearby stream to agricultural land. The situation escalated into a physical confrontation, leaving four individuals injured.
The injured have been identified as Matiur Rahman (35), Harmuj Ali Sheikh (45), Jahanur Islam (27) and Abdur Rahman (28). They later approached Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station seeking legal action against the accused.
As per the FIR lodged by complainant Chorab Ali, the accused have been identified as Kamal Sheikh, Saher Ali Sheikh, Bahar Ali Sheikh, Taher Ali Sheikh and Kamand Sheikh.
Police have detained Saher Ali Sheikh, Taher Ali Sheikh and Kamand Sheikh in connection with the incident. The prime accused, Kamal Sheikh, is reportedly absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him.
Meanwhile, some local residents alleged longstanding tensions in the area and urged authorities to ensure law and order. They appealed for appropriate legal action against those involved in the assault.
Police officials stated that an investigation is ongoing and necessary action will be taken as per law.
