A landslide has severed the vital Lumding-Badarpur Hill railway section this afternoon, disrupting train services across Northeast India's key transportation corridor.
The incident occurred at kilometre 51/2-3 between Dihakho and Mupa stations, where falling boulders and debris completely blocked the tracks.
The disruption affects one of the region's most important rail routes, which connects Assam with southern states and serves as a lifeline for thousands of daily commuters and freight movement. Senior railway officials have mobilised to the site to assess the damage and coordinate clearance operations.
Railway authorities have suspended all train movement on the affected section until the track is cleared of the accumulated earth and rocks. The restoration timeline remains uncertain as crews work to remove the substantial debris blocking the route.
To assist affected travellers, railway officials have established help desks at five major stations: Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala. These facilities are providing information and assistance to passengers whose journeys have been interrupted by the blockage.
The railway administration continues monitoring the situation closely and has promised regular updates as restoration work progresses.
