Assam: Landslide near New Harangajao station disrupts train services on Lumding–Badarpur hill section

Train services on the Lumding–Badarpur hill section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) were disrupted after a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall damaged railway tracks near New Harangajao Railway Station in Assam's Dima Hasao district.

According to railway officials, the landslide occurred on the night of July 23 at kilometre 118/1–3 within the New Harangajao station yard. Around 200 metres of railway track on Lines 1 and 2 were damaged, with both tracks bending under the impact and becoming unsafe for train movement.

As a precautionary measure, train operations on Lines 1 and 2 have been suspended. Line 3 remains operational, but trains are being allowed to pass at a restricted speed of 10 kmph, resulting in delays to both passenger and freight services.

The Northeast Frontier Railway has launched restoration work on a war footing to repair the damaged tracks and restore normal train operations at the earliest. Senior railway officials are monitoring the situation and supervising the restoration efforts.

Railway authorities said every effort is being made to resume regular services as soon as safety conditions permit.
