Assam: Landslide wreaks havoc on Sonapur-Digaru-Satgaon route, hundreds stranded

A massive landslide has severely disrupted the Sonapur-Digaru-Satgaon road, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded. The incident, triggered by torrential overnight rains, has caused multiple sections of the mountains to collapse, blocking the vital roadway at several points.

The heavy rainfall led to an overflow of water from the hillside, which subsequently triggered the landslides.

"Heavy rainfall last night led to a landslide in the area. The situation has worsened further with the route connecting Sonapur-Digaru-Satgaon route shut. You can see the condition of the route. The water has flown down through the hills following the heavy rainfall", said one of the locals while speaking to the reporters.

Efforts to clear the debris are underway, but the extensive damage across multiple sites is expected to delay the reopening of the road for a considerable period.

Local authorities and emergency teams are on-site, working tirelessly to restore access, but the scale of the destruction has made the task daunting. Passengers are currently left waiting as the road remains impassable.
