Assam: Late Majorsing R. Marak Memorial Football Tournament concludes with grand success in Hahim

The border town of Hahim, where Assam meets Meghalaya, came alive with the spirit of sportsmanship and unity as the Late Majorsing R. Marak Memorial Football Tournament concluded on a grand note. Organised by the Hahim Regional Garo Students’ Union, the annual tournament once again transformed the Assam–Meghalaya frontier into a vibrant stage of friendship, competition, and cultural exchange.

The final match, held at the Hahim High School playground, was inaugurated by noted social worker Gancheng B. Sangma, who hailed the event as a beacon of inter-state harmony and an example of how football continues to strengthen bonds between neighbouring communities.

Dedicated to the memory of Late Majorsing R. Marak, the revered former Principal of Hahim High School and a prominent educationist, the tournament has become a symbol of unity and youth empowerment. Marak’s contributions to education and community development remain a guiding light for the younger generation, with the memorial event standing as a heartfelt tribute to his enduring legacy.

In a gripping final encounter, Riangdo Football Club (Meghalaya) triumphed over New Balance Football Club (Assam) with a 3–1 victory, thrilling spectators and igniting jubilant celebrations among fans who had travelled from across the border to cheer their teams.

Expressing gratitude, the organisers thanked the residents of Hahim and adjoining villages for their unwavering support and cooperation, crediting them for the tournament’s seamless execution. They highlighted that beyond being a sporting event, the tournament has evolved into a symbol of unity and goodwill between the people of Assam and Meghalaya.

The concluding ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Purnakanta Kalita, Headmaster of Hahim High School; Pranakrishna Rabha, Officer-in-Charge of Hahim Police Out Post; Samuel Ch. Sangma, Officer-in-Charge of Athiabari Police Out Post (Meghalaya); and Babul Chandra Boro, President of the Hahim Bazar Samiti, among others.

As the tournament drew to a close, it once again reaffirmed that the memory of Late Majorsing R. Marak continues to inspire — not just within the walls of the school he once led, but also on the football field, where youth from both states come together in the shared spirit of sportsmanship, brotherhood, and peace
