Assam launches mobile app training for door-to-door flood damage assessment

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 7 inaugurated a training programme on a mobile application developed for rapid flood damage assessment under the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) framework in four flood-affected districts.

 

The state government will conduct a door-to-door survey of flood-affected households in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat from August 9 to August 30 to assess the extent of the damage.

 

The training programme aims to equip government officials with the use of the mobile application for quick and accurate assessment of flood-related losses. Officials will upload photographs of damaged houses and properties through the dedicated app to create digital records for relief and rehabilitation planning.

 

The Chief Minister directed Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Co-District Commissioners (CDCs) and Circle Officers to adopt a compassionate approach during the survey and ensure that no affected household is left out.

 

The initial assessment will be completed by August 30, followed by reverification with the affected families before relief is finalised. Sarma said the government's guiding principle is to assess every genuine loss and provide the maximum relief permissible under the existing norms.

 

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta, senior officials of the department, and district administration officials from the four districts attended the training programme.
