As Durga Puja approaches, pandals across the region are being adorned with stunning decorations, reflecting the anticipation and dedication of the organizing committees.
The frenetic pace of preparations shows no signs of slowing down, as communities rally together to bring the celebration to life. This year, Margherita too is brimming with enthusiasm for Durga Puja, and a special organizing committee in Ledo, within the 8th Margherita constituency of Tinsukia district, has captured the public’s attention with their unique and long-standing traditions.
The Triveni Sangha of Ledo, continuing a tradition that spans over four decades, once again carried the idol of Goddess Durga on the shoulders of devotees for nearly two kilometers during the Bel Sashti celebrations on Tuesday, October 9.
This custom has been preserved by the residents of Rod Gaon, Chipe Gaon, and Kalpara Gaon, who have been organizing the Durga Puja together for 45 years. The idol is brought from the sculptor’s shop in a traditional procession, with devotees walking nearly two kilometers to escort it to the pandal.

Hemanta Gogoi, a member of the Triveni Sangha, expressed pride in maintaining this custom, which not only deepens the sense of devotion but also aligns with environmental values. "By carrying the idol on our shoulders, we minimize pollution and reduce the noise associated with motor vehicles," Gogoi explained. This conscious effort to celebrate in an eco-friendly manner has earned the praise of many and stands as a testament to the community's dedication to both tradition and sustainability.
As the preparations reach their peak, the collective spirit of the people of Ledo continues to shine, making this year's Durga Puja a memorable and meaningful celebration for all involved.
