The legendary Assamese music composer, Ramen Baruah, who has been missing for more than 48 hours from his home in Latasil, Guwahati, has resulted in a widespread search operation in the flooded Brahmaputra river at Dhubri District.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is leading the efforts to locate the 84-year-old musician.
Baruah reportedly left his home on Monday morning to visit a nearby temple. When he did not return by late evening, his concerned family informed the police, who immediately initiated a search. CCTV footage later revealed Baruah walking through a lane near the Gauhati High Court, heading towards the Brahmaputra riverbank with a plastic bag in his hand. His final phone signal was also traced near the vicinity of the High Court building.

Despite intensive search efforts by the police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and SDRF teams in Guwahati since Tuesday morning, no significant leads have been found. Consequently, the search has now expanded to the Brahmaputra in Dhubri District, especially near the Indo-Bangladesh border, where flooding has complicated the rescue efforts.
Authorities continue to hope for a breakthrough and the musical community and fans of Ramen Baruah remain in deep concern, praying for his safe return.
