Assam: Locals allege Margherita MLA refused to help flood victims in shelter camp

Assam legislator Bhaskar Sharma faced severe backlash after his visit resulted in public outcry and allegations of neglect at the Tekeri shelter camp in Pengeri. 

The visit, intended to assess living conditions, quickly escalated into a confrontation as residents aired grievances about inadequate support amid their hardships.

Eyewitnesses allegded that tensions flared when locals approached Sharma with complaints about the dire conditions at the shelter, where many have been forced to reside in a school building for days.

One local said, "Many BJP leaders have attacked me when I informed MLA Bhaskar Sharma about the hardships people are facing here. It has been three days, and many of us are living in a school. He arrived empty-handed." 

Another resident added, "When asked about mosquito nets, he said that Congress used to provide them, but the BJP does not. He bluntly refused to help us, and this was caught on camera".

The situation intensified further when Sharma abruptly left the scene amidst mounting criticism, declaring he would not intervene to address the camp's pressing needs.

Residents at the shelter camp have since voiced urgent appeals for assistance, particularly for athwas to alleviate the worsening conditions. The incident has highlighted deep-seated frustrations among the displaced population, who continue to endure hardships without adequate government support.
