Assam: Locals risk life while crossing dilapidated bridge in Bongaigaon, administration silent

Children and locals of Shaulmari in Bongaigaon, Assam have raised serious concerns over the dilapidated condition of the only bridge spanning over the Pokalagi river, that continues to remain neglected by the administration despite repeated complaints.

This bridge, constructed annually with public funds, serves as a lifeline for the community. However, despite being represented by various political leaders over the years, the village remains devoid of a permanent bridge, exacerbating the daily struggles of its inhabitants.

Leaders have promised of addressing the issue often surfacing during election campaigns, only to be forgotten once the votes are secured. This recurring cycle of unfulfilled pledges has bred disillusionment among the populace, leading to shifts in political allegiances in search of change.

Key figures like Bhupen Roy and Abdul Hai Nagari, former and current MLAs respectively, are scrutinized for their failure to address the longstanding infrastructure deficit. Despite their tenure, tangible progress remains elusive, leaving the community disheartened and questioning their representatives' commitment.

Delays in the disbursement of allocated funds further exacerbate the residents' frustration, as evidenced by the stalled committee efforts led by MLA Abdul Batin Khandkar.

Amidst the political wrangling, the residents' resilience shines through as they continue to advocate for their rights. Their appeals to the current BJP government, both at the state and central levels, underscore the urgency of the situation and their unwavering determination to secure a safer passage across the river.

Despite the challenges, there's a glimmer of hope as the community looks towards the future, anticipating meaningful action from their elected representatives. The narrative serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles faced by marginalized communities and the imperative for political accountability in addressing their needs.
