Assam LPG row: Kokrajhar consumers allege six-month delay, black-market sale of cylinders

Hundreds of consumers allegedly unable to obtain LPG cylinders despite receiving booking OTPs surrounded the office of Baokhungri HP Gas distributor in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, accusing the distributor of failing to supply cylinders for the past six months.

Consumers said the problem had persisted despite repeated bookings and OTP confirmations. They alleged that the distributor had offered different explanations for the failure to deliver cylinders, leaving customers without a reliable supply.

The protestors also alleged that cylinders intended for consumers were being diverted to the black market, raising questions over the distribution of LPG supplies in the area.

The distributor, owned by Bistu Ram Narzary, serves more than 1,000 Ujjwala LPG beneficiaries, according to consumers.

Residents said they had approached the Kokrajhar district administration and senior officials of the concerned department over the alleged irregularities but claimed that no effective action had followed.

Tension at the distributor’s office increased as more consumers joined the protest. Employees were reportedly forced to leave the premises as the crowd grew.
