Assam: Major disaster averted in Dhubri after LPG cylinder leak triggers panic

A major disaster was averted in Assam’s Dhubri town on Tuesday, May 12 after a leaking domestic LPG cylinder triggered panic and fears of an explosion in the densely populated Panchughat area.

The incident occurred at the residence of Ranjit Das in Ward Number 3 of Dhubri. According to local residents, a loud sound was heard from the cooking gas cylinder, followed by the strong smell of leaking gas, prompting immediate concern among people in the neighbourhood.

As panic spread across the locality, residents rushed out of their homes fearing a possible explosion and fire. Owing to the close proximity of houses in the area, apprehensions of a large-scale mishap intensified within minutes.

Residents promptly informed the Fire and Emergency Services, following which a firefighting team reached the spot and initiated emergency response measures. Fire personnel entered the premises and successfully controlled the gas leak, preventing any further escalation.

Officials said the situation was brought under control without any injuries or damage to property. Local residents expressed relief after the timely intervention by the emergency responders, stating that a potentially serious accident had been prevented.
