Assam: Major relief for Ledo villages as work begins on Rs 8 crore Tirap River bridge

In a major relief for residents of several remote villages in the Ledo region, the long-awaited bridge over the Tirap River has officially moved from promise to progress. Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma on December 12 laid the foundation stone for the construction of the permanent bridge at Ledo Baruahghat, ending decades of uncertainty for the people of Ledo Kuhiar Bari, Bisa Gaon, Toklong, and Tinisuti.

For years, the absence of a proper bridge had forced villagers to undertake perilous journeys across the river, especially during monsoons, resulting in severe disruptions to daily life. Despite 78 years having passed since Independence, the region continued to face extreme mobility challenges due to the lack of safe connectivity.

A large gathering of villagers and local residents witnessed the foundation-laying ceremony, which marked a significant milestone for the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency. The event was attended by leaders from the Margherita BJP unit, including three regional presidents, senior party member Bhim Karmakar, prominent social worker and journalist Jagat Changmai, and members of the BJP Mahila Morcha and Yuva Morcha.

Speaking to the media, MLA Bhaskar Sharma stated that the bridge will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore, adding that the project is expected to transform connectivity and significantly ease transportation issues for thousands of residents in the area.

Villagers expressed optimism that the long-standing hardship caused by the missing link over the Tirap River will soon come to an end.
