Assam: Malaysian businessman eyes AI tourism training programme for state

A Malaysian entrepreneur has expressed interest in helping Assam develop its tourism sector through artificial intelligence training programmes, adding to growing international interest in the northeastern Indian state's economic potential.

KC See, a Malaysian businessman with 40 years of experience, shared his vision for an initiative to teach young Assamese people to become AI-powered travel content creators during his first-ever visit to the region.

Speaking to India Today NE, See said, "I'm thinking of bringing in tourism AI to Assam to teach young people to learn how to become travel bloggers using AI and promote Assam as a place for tourists to come."

The comments came during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit in Guwahati, where Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani also highlighted AI's central role in Assam's development trajectory.

Ambani announced plans for an AI-ready data centre in the state, saying it would support students, educators, healthcare professionals and farmers. The facility aims to provide digital skills training to Assamese youth, allowing them to "learn and earn from home."

In a notable statement, Ambani suggested that AI would soon represent "Assam Intelligence," pointing to the potential of the state's young population in the advancing digital economy.

In his conversation with India Today NE, See expressed surprise at what he discovered in Assam, noting differences from other parts of India he had previously visited.

"The people are very nice and different. I mean, I have been to other parts of India, but Assam is a very different place," See said. "This event is fantastic. A lot of people here, and a lot of opportunities."

The Malaysian businessman emphasised relationship-building as a precursor to formal business arrangements. "Business is all about making friends first and then from there, then we see what can happen," he explained.

Assam's strategic efforts to strengthen connections with Southeast Asian nations appear to be gaining traction, with See acknowledging the state's outreach to the region.

"I understand Assam is very keen to connect with people from Southeast Asia, which is where I'm from," he said. "We look forward to business opportunity that can lead to collaboration between Malaysia and India."
