Assam: Man accused of concealing identity before marrying Hindu woman, forced wife to consume beef; complaint lodged

A woman, originally from Golaghat, Assam, lodged a complaint against her husband on charges of identity concealment, coercion, and mental harassment.
 

The woman who was residing in Chennai with her daughter, reached here in Sribhumi, Assam and lodged a formal complaint at the Nilambazar Police Station, against her husband.

 

According to the complaint filed with the Nilambazar Police Station in Sribhumi, the woman, a resident of Noajan village in Golaghat district, had been living in Chennai with her daughter for work following the death of her husband. During this period, she came in contact with a man identified as Abdul Haque, who allegedly introduced himself as “Raju Dev” and claimed to be Hindu.

 

The woman has alleged that the accused, a resident of Jalalnagar village under the Nilambazar area of Sribhumi district, married her in a temple after presenting himself as a Hindu. However, she claims that after the marriage, he prevented her from performing Hindu religious rituals at home, raising suspicions about his true identity.

 

In her complaint, the woman further alleged that she was subjected to physical and mental harassment after confronting him. She has also accused the man of recording videos demonstrating the consumption of beef and pressuring her to eat it against her will. According to her statement, she faced repeated coercion and mental torture for refusing to comply.

 

The woman eventually managed to return from Chennai to Sribhumi and lodged a formal complaint against “Raju Dev” alias Abdul Haque at the Nilambazar Police Station. Authorities have confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

 

Police officials have not yet released further details regarding the charges or the current status of the accused. The case is expected to be examined from multiple legal angles, including allegations of identity fraud, coercion, and domestic abuse.
