The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Bijni Police jointly apprehended a man with a homemade firearm from Anand Bazar, located in 2 No. Daranga under Bijni subdivision of Assam’s Chirang district on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as 42-year-old Sujit Das, was taken into custody following a coordinated raid conducted by personnel of the 15th Battalion SSB from the Dhola camp in Kajalgaon and the local police.
The team conducted a search operation at his residence where they seized a locally manufactured firearm, 16 beer bottles, and 25 bottles of liquor.
Das, who is reported to be a small-scale shopkeeper, was arrested on the spot. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind his possession of the firearm, as no valid explanation has been provided so far.
