Assam: Man arrested with tiger bones in Chirang

A 64-year-old man was arrested on Saturday night in Jharbishpani, Bijni, Chirang district, after a forest department raid led to the recovery of various wild animal parts, including tiger bones, teeth, and deer horns.

The accused, identified as Basudev Roy, was apprehended at his residence during the operation conducted by the Panbari forest office team. Acting on a tip-off, officials raided the premises and seized the illegal wildlife contraband.

Forest officials suspect the parts may be linked to illegal poaching and trafficking networks. A senior forest official stated, “We are investigating the source and potential buyers of these animal parts. Further interrogation of the accused is underway.”

The seizure highlights ongoing wildlife trafficking issues in the region, where endangered species like tigers are often targeted. Authorities have intensified efforts to crack down on such activities, aiming to protect Assam's rich biodiversity.
