Online Gambling Leads to Young Man's Suicide
A tragic incident unfolded in Siddeshwar village, Katigara, as 27-year-old Biswajit Malakar, the son of Chowringhee Bazaar businessman Badal Malakar, took his own life on Sunday evening. Authorities believe the suicide was linked to Biswajit’s addiction to online gambling, which had plunged him into a financial crisis.
Biswajit, who had reportedly lost Rs 12 lakh in the past few days, was found dead at his home, with a chip around his neck. According to local sources, the young man had attempted suicide twice before but was rescued by his family on both occasions. This time, however, the family could not intervene in time.
Katigara police reached the scene upon receiving information and recovered the body, which was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. Initial investigations point to the mounting stress from gambling debts as the primary cause of the suicide.
The incident has left the local community in shock and sparked concerns about the growing problem of online gambling addiction in the region. Biswajit’s death has highlighted the urgent need for awareness and measures to curb the adverse impacts of this dangerous habit.
