Assam: Man dies after falling into drain while fishing in Cachar

A 51-year-old man died after reportedly falling into a drain while he had gone fishing near his home in Assam’s Cachar district, triggering grief in the Ganganagar area.

The deceased has been identified as Ranu Das, a resident of Ganganagar Ninth Block village under Krishnapur Ganganagar Gaon Panchayat.

According to locals, Das had gone fishing with a net in a drain near his house on Friday afternoon following rainfall. However, he did not return home that night.

His family members subsequently searched for him for several hours but were unable to trace him.

On Saturday morning, his body was recovered from the drain. Police reached the spot after being informed, recovered the body and sent it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the Ganganagar area, with the circumstances surrounding his fall being investigated.
