Assam: Man dies after falling into pond in Sribhumi’s Chaitanyanagar, locals blame poor drainage work

A tragic incident was reported from Chaitanyanagar in the Malua area of Assam's Sribhumi district, where a man died after allegedly slipping and falling into a pond.

The deceased was identified as Sanjay Kumar Nath. According to reports, he had gone to the pond to wash himself when he suddenly slipped and fell into the water.

Locals alleged that improper drainage arrangements linked to the ongoing Bharatmala project had caused excessive accumulation of water in the pond, which they claimed contributed to the incident.

Following the incident, family members informed the SDRF team from Badarpur. The rescue personnel later recovered the body from the pond and sent it to Karimganj Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The death of Sanjay Kumar Nath has cast a pall of gloom across the locality.
