A chilling murder case has rocked Juria in Assam’s Nagaon district after a late-night altercation between two groups allegedly resulted in the death of a local resident. The case has taken a sensational turn with serious allegations being leveled against several self-styled portal journalists, as well as a journalist associated with a satellite news channel.
According to sources, a confrontation reportedly erupted late Wednesday night at Juria Bazaar between Ashfikur Rahman, identified as a portal journalist, and Abdul Rahim, a resident of Kadamoni Pathar village, along with members of his family. The altercation, whose cause remains unclear, escalated into a physical clash.
The following day, Ashfikur Rahman lodged a complaint with police, accusing Rahim’s family of assault. However, the situation turned grim on Friday when Abdul Rahim was found dead, triggering outrage and suspicion.
Rahim’s wife has accused Ashfikur Rahman and his associates of launching a group assault on her husband. She claims Rahim was discovered in a critical condition near a local shop on Thursday morning, but was denied medical help due to alleged threats made by Fazlul Haque, a journalist affiliated with a satellite TV channel, and several portal reporters.
In her complaint, the grieving wife alleged that the accused group not only attacked Rahim but also intimidated the family into not seeking police or medical assistance, which may have directly contributed to his death.
The Juria Police have since registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), bearing Case No. 202/2025, and invoking Sections 103(1), 351(2), and 3(5). The deceased’s body has been sent to Nagaon for post-mortem examination.
A full-fledged investigation is underway, with authorities awaiting medical reports and witness testimonies to unravel the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
