A tragic incident unfolded in Guwahati city when a man lost his life after being struck by a train while engrossed in conversation on his mobile phone. The victim, identified as Mohan Barman, aged 36 and a resident of Yuva Nagar in Forest Gate, Narengi, met with the unfortunate accident on the railway tracks at The Forest Gate of Narengi under the jurisdiction of Noonmati police station.
According to reports, Mohan Barman had dropped off his two children at Narengi ASEB School earlier in the morning and was walking along the railway track, talking on his mobile phone. Unbeknownst to him, the Namonimoa Kamrup Express train was approaching.
Despite attempts by the train driver, gatekeeper, and locals to alert him to the oncoming train, Mohan Barman, preoccupied with his phone call, continued walking on the railway track, oblivious to the danger. Tragically, he was fatally struck by the Kamrup Express train.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Government Railway Police (GRP) railway police station at BG Yard in Bamunimaidam was notified. A police team, led by the officer-in-charge of the BGGRP railway police station, promptly reached the railway track at the Forest Gate of Narengi and recovered Mohan Barman's injured and bloodied body.
The body of Mohan Barman was transported to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) by the railway police for postmortem examination. The railway police have initiated an investigation into the matter, registering an Unnatural Death (UD) case at the police station.
This unfortunate incident comes on the heels of another tragic event where two individuals, including a woman, lost their lives in a similar manner after being struck by a train at Mathgharia the previous day.
