Assam: Man killed over family dispute in Bongaigaon

A gruesome murder rocked the Doukijha area of Bongaigaon on Tuesday evening, when a man was brutally killed with a large stone over a family-related dispute. The victim, identified as Manoranjan Sarkar, was allegedly attacked and killed by Haripada Biswas (50) near a railway track under the jurisdiction of Bongaigaon Sadar Police Station.

According to police sources, Haripada Biswas struck Sarkar repeatedly with a heavy stone, resulting in his death on the spot. The accused has been taken into custody, and police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.

Local residents were left in shock after the incident, which unfolded in broad daylight and at a public location. A large stone, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered beside the blood-soaked body of the victim.

Police, led by Additional Superintendent of Police N. Chingson, arrived at the scene shortly after the crime. A forensic team also joined the investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.

Initial findings suggest that the murder was the result of an ongoing personal conflict between the two men. Just two days before the incident, Sarkar and Biswas had reportedly been involved in a physical altercation. Police believe Haripada Biswas was waiting for an opportunity to exact revenge.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence and establish a clear motive behind the attack.
