Assam: Man swept away in Longai River while attempting to cross on makeshift raft in Sribhumi’s Nilambazar

A tragic incident unfolded in the Nilambazar area of Sribhumi district, where a man identified as Selim Uddin went missing after being swept away by the strong currents of the Longai River. The mishap took place in Dighalbag village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Nilambazar Police Station.


As per initial reports, Selim Uddin, along with two others, attempted to cross the river using a makeshift raft constructed from thermocol sheets. However, before reaching the other bank, the raft lost balance and capsized in midstream. While two of the individuals managed to swim to safety, Selim Uddin was unable to escape the river's powerful current and was carried away.


Local authorities were alerted immediately, following which personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed to launch a search and rescue operation. As of the latest update, the search for the missing individual remains ongoing.
