Assam: Margherita doctor urges state government to construct hospital for Panchakarma Therapy patients

Dr Sashindra Barman, the Sub Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) and in charge of Panchakarma Therapy at Margherita FRU, who introduced Panchakarma Therapy at Margherita Civil Hospital requested the Assam government to construct a separate 30 bedded hospital for patients who comes to seek the therapy from far flung areas. 

 

However, according to Dr. Barman, the hospital has not received any kind of response yet from the government that could help in providing better treatment.

 

Speaking to reporters, Dr Barman said that the therapy has cured over 700 patients suffering from various major diseases such as neurological problems, lumber spondylitis, surgical spondylitis, slip disc, hydronephrocis, small renal calculi, pancreatitis, fatty liver, deep jaundice, deep injury and varicose vein.

 

Dr Barman also said, “I have requested Assam Government to construct a separate 30 bedded hospital for Panchakarma Therapy at Margherita so that patients who comes far flung areas may get better treatment, but I have not got any kind of response yet.” 

It may be mentioned that a group meeting was held with the management of North Eastern Coalfields Coal India Ltd. in Margherita, where they assured of providing Rs. 5 crore funds through the CSR scheme if the recommendation comes from Margherita MLA or Margherita SDO (Civil). Dr. Sashindra Barman stated that if the proposal is recommended by the Tinsukia District Deputy Commissioner, then Rs. 10 crore funds will be provided to construct a Panchakarma Therapy center in Margherita.

 

Meanwhile, patients receiving treatment through Panchakarma Therapy at Margherita Civil Hospital expressed that in the year 2025, Dr Sashindra Barman will retire. Consequently, they requested the Assam Government Health Minister for the continuation of Dr Sashindra Barman's service due to his efficiency and dedication.

 

The initiative commenced on March 8, 2019, with assistance and support from key figures including Margherita Sub Divisional Officers Preeti Kumari (IAS) and Pabitra Kumar Das, alongside Margherita Civil Hospital's Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Kumud Chandra Das. Additionally, the collaborative efforts of Tinsukia District Deputy Commissioner Swapneel Paul and Tinsukia District Joint Health Directors G S Gogoi and Jayanta Bhattacharya were instrumental in facilitating the commencement of Panchakarma Therapy.
