Residents of the Kariyajan region in Margherita, Assam, are facing severe difficulties due to a dilapidated bridge over the Dibru river.
This critical bridge, connecting Kanai Pathar and Kariyajan, has become submerged during monsoons, leading to numerous accidents involving school children, teachers, and commuters.
The bridge, situated on the main road under Margherita constituency no. 83, poses significant risks to vehicles carrying tea leaves and passengers, as well as those heading to the hospital.
Locals have expressed distress over the perilous condition of the bridge, highlighting its frequent submergence and the resulting hazards.
Appeals have been made to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and local MLA Bhaskar Sharma to urgently address the situation. Residents stress the urgent need for reconstruction to prevent further accidents and ensure safe passage for all commuters.
Concerns are growing that without immediate action, the community may resort to alternative measures to address the pressing infrastructure issue.
