Assam: Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma inaugurates 83 development projects under municipal board

Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma on Thursday, January 8 inaugurated a series of development works undertaken by the Margherita Municipal Board, marking a significant push to strengthen civic infrastructure in the town.


A total of 83 projects were formally launched during a ceremony held at the Margherita Municipal Office. The projects have been funded through allocations received under the first and second instalments of the 15th Finance Commission for the financial year 2023–24, along with the first instalment for 2024–25.


The inauguration coincided with the birthday of MLA Bhaskar Sharma, adding a ceremonial significance to the event. On the occasion, the Margherita Municipal Board extended birthday greetings to the legislator and marked the moment with a cake-cutting ceremony.


The programme was chaired by Margherita Municipal Board Chairman Anand Kumar Sharma and witnessed the presence of several key municipal and administrative officials. Among those present were Municipal Board Executive Officer Dheeraj Bhattacharya, Vice-Chairperson Rajlakshmi Devi Gogoi, Engineer Jitul Nath, and all ward commissioners of Margherita Municipality.


Addressing the gathering, MLA Bhaskar Sharma highlighted the importance of planned urban development and assured that the municipal board would continue to prioritise infrastructure projects aimed at improving basic amenities and overall quality of life for residents.

The newly inaugurated projects are expected to enhance civic services across various wards, reflecting the municipal board’s ongoing efforts to utilise central finance commission funds effectively for local development.
