Assam: Mass protest erupts in Jagiroad over attack on locals in Mayong

A large-scale protest erupted in Jhargaon in Jagiroad, Assam on Sunday, February 12  with people from Greater Jhargaon, Buraburi, and Mayong coming together to voice their anger following a violent incident in Gurumara Dalani village of Mayong.

The protest was sparked by reports of an attack o religious minorities in the region, which has stirred tensions in the local community.

The violence allegedly began after a dispute between two families over grass cutting in the fields. The situation escalated in the afternoon when a group of 10-12 individuals from the Muslim community reportedly launched a violent attack with sharp weapons, injuring five people, including several young women.

Local residents are now demanding that the authorities conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident and ensure that harsh penalties are imposed on the perpetrators.

The protestors marched through the area, chanting slogans such as "Hindu Unity Zindabad," "Hindus are awake today," and "The country will only be safe when Hindus are safe".
