Assam: Massive wildfire engulfs Shingimari forest in Bongaigoan, school escapes disaster
A massive forest fire erupted on Lethengpara Hill in the Shingimari area of Assam’s Bongaigaon district on April 7, triggering widespread alarm among local communities.
The blaze, which spread rapidly across the forested terrain, reached perilously close to No. 2 Shingimari Primary School. Thanks to swift intervention, the school was spared from the advancing flames.
Authorities have deployed firefighting units to the site, where operations are underway with the active support of local residents. Efforts to bring the fire under control continue amid challenging conditions.
Concerns have also been raised by villagers regarding the potential loss of wildlife, as the affected forest is known to be home to various species. The full extent of ecological damage remains unclear.
As of now, the cause behind the fire has not been identified, and an investigation is expected to follow once the situation stabilizes
