Assam: Mayor Mrigen Sarania inaugurates public crematorium in Boko, eases long-standing civic hardship

Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania inaugurated a newly constructed public crematorium facility at Khrapara–Kalitapara village near Chukuniapara in Boko, marking the fulfillment of a long-pending demand of the local community and addressing a critical civic gap that had caused years of hardship for residents.

The new crematorium building, along with an iron pyre structure, was formally opened at the public cremation ground in the presence of a large gathering of villagers and local representatives. For decades, families in the area had struggled to perform last rites due to the absence of basic infrastructure, often facing logistical and emotional distress during bereavement.

Taking cognizance of the issue, Mayor Sarania personally initiated and financed the project, contributing nearly Rs 3 lakh from his own resources to ensure the timely completion of the facility. The newly built structure is equipped with improved amenities aimed at providing a dignified and orderly environment for conducting last rites.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Kamrup Zilla Parishad member Kamburam Rabha, along with several prominent citizens and community leaders of the region. Speakers at the event lauded the Mayor’s intervention, describing it as a responsive and humane approach to grassroots governance.

Local residents expressed gratitude, stating that the facility has addressed a long-standing civic necessity and brought much-needed relief to families during their most difficult moments.
