Assam: Memorial meeting honours late King Bisa Nong Singpho's legacy in Margherita
A memorial meeting commemorating the life and contributions of Late King Bisa Nong Singpho was held on Friday at the Tribal Rest House in Margherita. The event was organized by the Tirap Autonomous District Council Demand Committee and the Singpho National Council.
King Bisa Nong Singpho, the Mauzadar of Tirap Mouza, passed away on January 15 at his residence in Bisa Gaon, Ledo, following a prolonged illness. He was cremated with state honors on January 17.
The ceremony commenced with the lighting of an earthen lamp before the late leader's portrait by Sengram Lebram, while Matiur Rehman offered floral tributes. Pallab Shyam Wailung outlined the purpose and objectives of the meeting, which was presided over by Sengram Lebram, President of the Singpho National Council.
The memorial gathering witnessed the presence of several distinguished tribal leaders and dignitaries, including Tirap Autonomous District Council Demand Committee President Rajkumar Bisa Mung Dung Singpho, Tangsa National Council Vice President Tehan Hakun, and Matiur Rehman, Working President of Asom Sanmilito Mahasangha. Other attendees included leaders from various tribal and student unions, such as the Maan Tai Speaking Student Union and the All Assam Tangsa Student Union.
A condolence letter was presented by Matiur Rehman to Rajkumar Bisa Mung Dung Singpho, the eldest son of the late King. Speakers at the event reflected on the remarkable contributions of King Bisa Nong Singpho, emphasizing his dedication to the welfare of tribal communities and his impact on the greater Assamese society in the Margherita Co-District region.
