A major accident was averted on National Highway 27 near Patgaon in Kokrajhar last night when a night passenger bus suddenly caught fire due to a suspected mechanical fault.

The incident occurred around 12:40 am when the Tezpur-bound bus (registration number AR-01-M-0924) was travelling from Siliguri.
