Assam Minister Ashok Singhal visits historic Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Gurudwara in Dhubri

Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister and Dhubri district Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal on June 11 visited the historic Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Ji Gurudwara in Dhubri and paid tribute to the legacy and sacrifice of the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji.

The Gurudwara holds immense religious and historical significance as the site where Guru Teg Bahadur Ji is believed to have stayed and performed meditation for nearly six years during his travels through the region.

Speaking to reporters during his visit, Singhal highlighted the importance of preserving and honouring the rich heritage associated with the shrine. Recalling the historical circumstances of the Mughal era, he spoke about the challenges and persecution faced by many communities during that period.

The minister referred to accounts of Kashmiri Pandits seeking the Guru's support amid religious persecution and noted that Guru Teg Bahadur Ji stood firm in defending freedom of faith and human dignity.

Singhal said that despite facing immense hardship and torture, Guru Teg Bahadur Ji remained steadfast in his beliefs and ultimately laid down his life for the protection of religious freedom and cultural identity.

Describing the Guru's sacrifice as a defining moment in Indian history, he noted that Guru Teg Bahadur Ji is revered as "Hind Ki Chadar" or "The Shield of India" for his courage and selfless service.

The minister also expressed pride that Dhubri is home to a site associated with such an iconic spiritual figure and said the state government remains committed to preserving the district's cultural and historical heritage.

Reaffirming the government's development agenda, Singhal stated that efforts are underway to accelerate the growth of Dhubri while ensuring communal harmony, unity and peaceful coexistence among all communities.
