Assam Minister Rameswar Teli warns contractor over delay in Rs 12.38 crore Borgolai mini stadium

Assam Cabinet Minister and Tinsukia district guardian minister Rameswar Teli directed officials and the contractor to expedite the construction of an ultra-modern mini sports stadium at Borgolai in the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency, expressing strong dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work.

The stadium is being constructed under the Dehing Patkai Sports Project through the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Assam government at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 12.38 crore. The project is intended to provide improved sports infrastructure for young athletes and sports enthusiasts in the Margherita area.

Teli visited the construction site on Wednesday evening following complaints regarding the slow progress of the project. During the inspection, he reviewed the status of the construction and held discussions with the concerned departmental officials and the contractor.

The minister expressed dissatisfaction over the failure to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe. He pointed out that construction of similar stadiums had been undertaken simultaneously at several other locations in Tinsukia district and that some of those projects had already been completed, while the Borgolai facility remained unfinished.

Teli directed the authorities concerned to accelerate the construction and ensure that the stadium is completed at the earliest. He also made it clear that negligence or further delay would not be tolerated.

The minister warned that appropriate action would be taken against the contractor if the project was not completed within the stipulated timeframe.

Once completed, the mini stadium is expected to provide sports facilities for residents of the Margherita area and support emerging sportspersons from the region.
