Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass inaugurates mini stadium named after Khargeshwar Talukdar in Bajali

A mini stadium named after Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the Assam Movement, was inaugurated at Dhemsa Pathar in Bajali on February 9. Assam Cabinet Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass formally inaugurated the facility by playing a game of badminton.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the stadium has been developed as a multipurpose indoor sports facility equipped with modern amenities, including an indoor arena, dormitory-style hostels, essential infrastructure and space to host various sporting competitions in the future. He added that the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure at the grassroots level.

Ranjeet Kumar Dass credited Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for continuously prioritising sports development across Assam, stating that sustained efforts are being made to encourage young talent and promote a sporting culture in the state.

During his interaction with the media, the minister also made strong remarks on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, raising questions over his alleged Pakistan link. “Gaurav Gogoi spent 10 days in Pakistan. As an MP elected from Assam, he must explain what he did there,” Dass said.

He further stated that Pakistan remains India’s adversary not only in matters of war but also in sports, alleging that Pakistan supports anti-India narratives even during sporting events. Referring to the Chief Minister’s recent 2.5-hour press conference on the issue, Dass said Gogoi should similarly come forward and clarify his Pakistan visit.

The event witnessed the presence of local residents, sportspersons and party workers, with the newly inaugurated stadium being seen as both a tribute to Assam’s historic movement and a boost to sports development in the region.
