Assam minister reviews progress of east-west corridor, says Harangajao stretch to open by January 2026
Assam Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Mines and Minerals Minister Kaushik Roy on November 22 inspected the ongoing construction of the Silchar–Saurashtra East-West Corridor along the Harangajao–Jatinga stretch of National Highway 27 and reviewed the progress of work.
During the inspection, the minister held discussions with officials of the National Highways Authority of India on development and maintenance activities.
A review meeting was later convened at the Haflong Circuit House, where issues related to road connectivity, infrastructure upgrades and public convenience were discussed in detail. Roy emphasised the importance of completing the project within the stipulated timeline to ensure smooth and safe travel for commuters.

Rajya Sabha MP Konak Purokayastha, MLAs Mihir Kanti Shome and Nihar Ranjan Das, North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Executive Member Donpainan Thaosen, Council Principal Secretary Partha Sarathi Johari, Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngate, Superintendent of Police Ripunjay Kakati and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
Minister Roy informed that the 49-km stretch between Nirim Bungalow and Harangajao is scheduled to be opened to the public on January 31, 2026. Of this, 7–8 km will feature a combination of partially four-lane and partially two-lane road. He added that 85.3 per cent of the construction work has been completed so far.
Addressing concerns raised by civil society regarding compensation issues, the minister directed NHAI officials to expedite the process so that it aligns with the overall project completion timeline.
