Assam minister's convoy stranded after locals block highway over accident

Assam cabinet minister Atul Bora's convoy was stranded on the highway at Borongabari in Gohpur sub division of Biswanath district, after irate locals blocked the road following the death of a person in a road accident.

The road blockade took place after a motorcycle borne person collided with a speeding vehicle and died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as one Fatik Hazarika, hailing from Gopalpur.

Following this, irate locals blocked the road and demanded that it is high time the authorities construct a divider on the road and a U-turn as well.

In the midst of this, the convoy of cabinet minister Atul Bora got stuck on the road as the angry locals would not give way. The minister himself came forward and talked to the locals and also held talks with the authorities to sort out the matter on the spot.

"I was coming from Lakhimpur. The I found that there has been an accident here and one person has died. I have been told that there have been similar accidents in the recent past where people have died. There is a magistrate here. People are demanding that a divider is required and a way is required to move from both sides of the road. I have talked with the people as well as the district magistrate here. They have given assurance that steps will be taken fast in this regard. They said that talks had been held with the NHIDCL yesterday, but unfortunately this accident happened today. I believe the people realise that the authorities are working in this regard and something will be done soon enough," said Atul Bora.

Soon, after talks with the locals, the blockade was finally lifted and Atul Bora's convoy moved ahead.
