Assam Minority Struggle Council seeks justice for Dima Hasao police officer’s death

The Assam Minority Struggle Council has submitted a memorandum seeking justice for the death of Nabajit Das, officer-in-charge of the Laishong Police Outpost in Dima Hasao district, who allegedly died after being hit by a vehicle suspected to be involved in drug trafficking.
 

According to the organisation, Das was attempting to intercept the vehicle on Friday night when it allegedly hit him and fled the scene, leaving the car behind. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
 

Juria Police have arrested Abdul Kuddus, the owner of the Kia vehicle allegedly involved in the incident. Police said the alleged main accused, Selim Ahmed, is absconding.
 

The incident has prompted Dima Hasao Police to initiate an investigation, with a team reportedly reaching Juria in Nagaon district in connection with the case.
 

Expressing grief over Das’s death, Assam Minority Struggle Council leader Abubakkar Siddique said it was distressing that a police officer had lost his life allegedly in connection with drug trafficking.
 

Siddique demanded action against alleged drug trafficking networks in Juria and warned that the organisation would launch a democratic movement if the alleged drug mafia bases in the area were not dismantled within 12 hours.
 

The circumstances surrounding Das’s death and the alleged involvement of the vehicle in drug trafficking are being investigated.
