What was meant to be a moment of pride for Boko–Chhaygaon turned into an embarrassing incident today when the entrance door of the newly inaugurated new co-district commissioner’s office collapsed shortly after the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The office, located at Dakuapara in Boko, was officially inaugurated by Public Health Engineering Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah. However, the celebration was quickly overshadowed by the mishap, which eyewitnesses attributed to substandard construction work carried out under the supervision of the contractor and the departmental engineer.
The new office stands on the renovated premises of the former National Highways Authority of India’s Kamrup Division office, which was vacated after being shifted to another location. According to sources, the renovation project was executed by the Public Works Department (Housing).
Speaking on the incident, newly appointed CDC Priyanshu Bharadwaj, said that it was unfortunate, however the concerned department will take care of the issue. Meanwhile, while trying to contact the PWD (BUILDING) officials, none responded.
The incident has raised questions over the quality of public infrastructure projects and accountability in government works, especially as the facility was expected to serve as a key administrative hub for the region.
