A major environmental and security incident unfolded in Abhaypur, Hajo, Assam as unidentified miscreants allegedly sabotaged a crude oil pipeline, causing thousands of litres of crude oil to leak and flood a nearby agricultural field.
According to preliminary reports, the miscreants dug into a cultivated field and intentionally ruptured the pipeline, leading to a massive spill. Authorities recovered iron tools believed to have been used in puncturing the pipeline, indicating a premeditated act of vandalism.
The affected field has since been inundated with crude oil, posing serious risks to both agriculture and local ecology. In a surprising turn, the site also drew crowds of people who rushed to collect the spilled oil using makeshift containers.
Officials from the concerned oil department, Assam Police, and the fire and emergency services promptly reached the location and began assessments of the situation. The area was cordoned off to prevent further public gathering and ensure safety amid fears of fire hazards and environmental contamination.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to contain the spill and assess the full extent of the damage. No arrests have been made so far.
