The discovery of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Muzaffar Hussain’s body in Abhayapuri has triggered shock and political tension in Bongaigaon district. Hussain, a resident of Rongapani, had gone missing on Friday, September 5 night before being found dead on Saturday, September 6 under the Bor-Narikala bridge.
Family members have alleged that Hussain was the victim of a political conspiracy, terming the incident as a case of “political murder.”
Police officials, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate and a forensic team, arrived at the site and initiated an investigation. Authorities have stated that only after the probe is complete will it be confirmed whether the case involves political motives or other factors.
Adding to the sensitivity of the case, it was revealed that Hussain’s wife had contested the last Panchayat elections but suffered defeat. The incident has left the local political atmosphere tense, with several senior AGP leaders, including the party’s Central Secretary Bhupen Roy, rushing to the site.
