In a shocking incident at the Number Thirteen Garden of Kaliabor Tea Estate, human body parts suspected to belong to 60-year-old Basudev Karmakar were recovered on Sunday. Karmakar, missing since Saturday, is believed to have fallen victim to a tiger attack, as per initial suspicions.
The forest department, police, and an executive magistrate rushed to the scene to investigate. The recovered remains were sent for postmortem to confirm the cause of death. The presence of tiger activity in the area has sparked fear among tea estate workers.
State Minister Keshav Mahanta visited the site to assess the situation and provide relief to Karmakar’s family. He announced compensation for the victims and pledged to recruit additional forest protection forces to enhance the safety of workers in the region.
The incident has raised concerns over increasing human-wildlife conflicts in tea garden areas. Local authorities have urged residents to exercise caution while further measures are being taken to prevent similar occurrences.
