Six vital paved roads in the Manas Legislative Assembly Constituency of Baksa district, Assam were formally inaugurated today. The inauguration ceremony was led by MLA and constituency guardian Phanidhar Talukdar, amidst the presence of party leaders and local stakeholders.
Speaking to reporters, MLA Talukdar described the occasion as a moment of pride and progress for the region. “Today marks a significant step forward for both Old Bhawanipur and the current Manas constituency. We have officially launched construction work of road projects totalling Rs 33 crore under the SOPD-G scheme,” he said.
Among the projects, the Salbari–Bhuyapara road was highlighted as particularly critical due to its strategic importance as a gateway to the Manas National Park, a prominent eco-tourism destination. “This road will greatly benefit tourist inflow and regional development,” the MLA added.
Talukdar also revisited the 2021 by-election, during which Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had visited the constituency and held a public meeting. During that visit, the Chief Minister pledged the construction of two key roads:
Saudarbhitha to Bhuyapara
Bhawanipur via Saudarbhitha to Manas
“True to his word, those roadworks—valued at Rs 100 crore—have been successfully completed,” Talukdar informed. “Today, we’ve laid the foundation stone for the remaining 8-kilometre stretch, which will be constructed at a cost of ₹33 crore.”
Extending his gratitude, the MLA thanked Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for fulfilling the infrastructural commitment, which he believes will significantly transform the connectivity and livelihood prospects of the region.
The foundation stone laying ceremony witnessed active participation from senior party leaders, signifying political will and collaborative governance behind the region’s ongoing development initiatives.
