Moonmi Gogoi of Bargolai Gaon Panchayat was unanimously elected as the new president of the Margherita Anchalik Panchayat during an official election held at the Margherita Development Block office on Monday.
The election process, which included representatives from 13 Anchalik Panchayats, also saw Rajendra Rai being elected as vice-president, reflecting strong consensus and collaborative leadership emerging from the grassroots level.
Moonmi Gogoi, a seasoned and respected member of the Anchalik Panchayat, is widely regarded for her community-focused initiatives and development-oriented outlook. In her first statement after assuming office, Gogoi said, “I am deeply honored by this responsibility and will work tirelessly for the welfare and progress of our community.” She further emphasized her vision for inclusive development and grassroots empowerment, a message that resonated positively with local residents.
The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the presence of key political dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha MP and former Union Minister Rameshwar Teli. The occasion was also attended by Margherita BJP Sadar, Town, and Block Mandal presidents, general secretaries, members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, and senior BJP leaders like Bhabesh Dutta and Bhim Karmakar — underscoring the significance of the newly elected leadership.
Speaking at the event, Margherita BJP Town Mandal President Sukhdev Sharma lauded the development initiatives undertaken by Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma. He also strongly condemned the recent remarks made by Sivasagar MLA and Raijor Dal President Akhil Gogoi during a campaign event in Margherita, terming them divisive.
“Under Bhaskar Sharma’s leadership, Margherita has witnessed transformative progress. The people have unwavering trust in the BJP and will once again support him in 2026, ensuring a third term as MLA,” Sharma stated.
