Assam: Moran woman’s mysterious death sparks murder allegations, family files police complaint

The mysterious death of a 24-year-old woman, Asifa Begum, at Tenga Dalong in Moran has triggered allegations of murder, with her parents filing a complaint at Moran Police Station.

Asifa’s family has alleged that she was murdered and that an attempt was made to portray her death as suicide. However, the allegations are yet to be established, and the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

According to her family, Asifa had married Nazirul Hussain of her own choice. They alleged that after the marriage, her husband distanced her from her parental family and restricted her visits to her parents’ home. The family claimed that she was allowed to visit her parental home for only around two hours over the past three years.

Her family further alleged that on Sunday, when Asifa’s elder brother requested that she be taken for medical treatment, her husband told them to take her away permanently with a lawyer or a qazi. They also claimed that Hussain threatened divorce whenever Asifa expressed a desire to return to her parental home.

Meanwhile, Hussain reportedly told others that Asifa had died by suicide after hanging herself from a ceiling fan inside a room at their residence.

After Moran Medical Centre declared her dead, police sent the body to Assam Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Her family has raised suspicions over marks reportedly found on different parts of her body, questioning whether the death was a suicide or a possible murder.

Following the post-mortem examination, Asifa’s parents took her body to their home in Geleki for burial according to religious customs.

The exact circumstances of Asifa Begum’s death are expected to become clearer after the post-mortem report and police investigation. The family’s allegations have not yet been independently established.
