Assam: Morigaon BJP unit holds one-month memorial service honouring late icon Zubeen Garg
The Morigaon District unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observed one-month shraddha ceremony in memory of the late music legend Zubeen Garg, fondly remembered as “Pranor Xilpi” (Artist of the People). The event was held at the Morigaon District BJP office, marking one month since Assam lost one of its most beloved voices.
The ceremony began with lighting of candles and offering of floral tributes before Zubeen Garg’s portrait, followed by a collective Naam-Prasanga (prayer session). The atmosphere turned deeply emotional as attendees joined in singing one of Garg’s most soulful compositions — “Mayabini ratir buku dekha palo tomar chhobi” (“In the heart of the magical night, I saw your image”).
The gathering saw the presence of key district leaders, including Ramprasad Sarkar, President of Morigaon District BJP; Nirmal Konwar, Secretary; Ramakanta Deuri, MLA of Morigaon constituency; and Jibon Chandra Konwar, Chief Executive Member of the Tiwa Autonomous Council.
Speaking to the media, MLA Ramakanta Deuri emphasized that only the judiciary can ensure justice in the death case of Zubeen Garg, while criticizing the Congress party for allegedly politicizing the issue. He also made remarks comparing Akhil Gogoi to a grasshopper and labeling Gaurav Gogoi as a pretentious figure.
